Wild food is not only for trips to the countryside. Without leaving the city discover a range of edible flowers, plants & herbs and different ways to use them. Ambling through Edinburgh's green space we will explore how to make wild food a staple and the benefits of doing so - from the nutritional to the cultural and philosophical. Throughout the afternoon gather the basic skills required to identify common edibles as well as how to avoid poisonous & inedible lookalikes. Discuss how sustainability is an essential part of foraging, from mushrooms to plants, nuts and fruits. Look at how wild food can become a complimentary part of a meal while being sympathetic to the environment around you, and why this is such a key part of the forager's philosophy. To finish the day we will picnic, tasting a variety of foraged dishes - and a treat or two for the over 18s! The walk should last ~2.5 hours with the opportunity to stay a little later to enjoy some of the foods we have collected. Exact location of the walk will be confirmed via email before the event. Suitable for all ages with children welcome - individual or family tickets. Accessible via public transport and car parking available. For individual child tickets please contact me directly
